Water...It Really Is THIS Important!

Coming up with ten reasons why drinking water is important might seem unnecessary, considering that our bodies are made up of over 60% water on average, however it can be quite easy to forget, and then wonder why we don't feel that great. Having personally been someone who relied on Pepsi Max for a few years (I know, not great...it was a good while ago now), I understand that some people need a gentle reminder.

This short article is intended for those who struggle with staying hydrated – I've been there too! So, here are ten reasons to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day, every day. TOP TIP: if you don't currently drink water, don't suddenly aim to drink the recommended amount of 1.2-1.5 litreas a day!!! Start with substituting one of your usual drinks for a glass (or add a glass of water if you're not drinking much). Then gradually increase how much water you're drinking over a few weeks/months so it's easier to get used to.

Reason 1: Water is literally on tap for most of us, and more-or-less free. I'm not just talking about the cost. When it comes to calories, water is hands-down the best choice because it contains zero calories, and has no nasty sugar substitutes and flavour enhancers added like most other zero calorie drinks.

Reason 2: Water aids in weight loss. Have you ever noticed that sometimes a glass of water can curb your hunger pangs? Often, thirst is mistaken for hunger, and that craving for a chocolate bar or packet of crisps might actually be your body's way of asking for water.

Reason 3: Water improves digestion. It can have a significant impact on waste elimination. While fibre is crucial, staying hydrated is key for good digestion.

Reason 4: Water enhances cognitive function, mood, and overall wellbeing. Dehydration can lead to headaches, as our brains require ample fluid to function properly. Without water, your brain can feel strained, resulting in painful headaches.

Reason 5: Hydrated individuals tend to have healthier skin. While I'm not a scientist, I can attest to this firsthand. Switching from sugary or at least carbonated drinks to mostly water significantly improved my skin quality.

Reason 6: Water supports metabolism. It is suggested that increasing daily water intake to at least 1.5 litres could possibly lead to burning more calories and potential weight loss.

Reason 7: Water aids in detoxification. Think of it as a cleansing process!

Reason 8: Water acts as a superhighway for nutrient transportation in your body. By drinking more water, you facilitate the movement of essential nutrients, promoting overall health.

Reason 9: Water boosts energy levels. Dehydration often causes fatigue, hindering your body's optimal functioning. Feeling sluggish in the afternoon? Try hydrating and notice the difference.

Reason 10: Carrying a water bottle is not only practical but also really popular these days. There are so many different options available to suit everyone's tastes. Maybe get one which expresses your character, that you'd feel good about carrying around with you.

If these reasons aren't convincing enough, then you might need a bit more persuasion! Remember, staying hydrated is essential for your wellbeing. So, go ahead and drink more water!
